Day 1: Drive to Akagera National Park & Undertake a Boat Cruise in The Afternoon on Lake Ihema
You settle for breakfast at your place of stay in Kigali (own arrangement) after which you team up with your driver guide to transfer to Akagera National Park 135km around 2 ½ drive traversing the impressive countryside of Rwanda to the east which is relatively less hilly as it adjoins the Plains of western Tanzania.
The en route areas of Rwamagana offer possibilities of viewing the beautiful inyambo cows – the long-horned cattle of Rwanda. Upon arriving in Akagera, you settle for lunch at the lodge after which you take on a boat trip on Lake Ihema – the second largest in Rwanda after Lake Kivu.
The cruise is very romantic and recreational with possible sights of aquatics like Nile crocodiles; Hippos and bird species like shoebill and papyrus gonolek. After the activity, you retire for a sun-downer at the lodge, dinner, and overnight

The park is a rich habitat for Savannah game as it stands as the only Savannah habitat in the country and the during the game drive encounter, possible sights of lions, elephants, Buffaloes, leopards, Maasai Giraffe, Topis, Roan antelope, Water bucks, Eland, Reedbuck, Impala among other species.
The drive also offers a beautiful scenic view of the extensive wetlands system, the hilly landscape of Mutumba, and the overlooking Tanzanian plains. Retreat from the 3 – 4 hour activity and drive back to Kigali.
