     Great Pyramid (Pyramid of Cheops or Pyramid of Khufu)

    The Giza’s Great Pyramid, also known as Pyramid of Cheops is the leading monument of this ancient site and among the great monuments of the world worth visiting while on Egypt tours. The Great Pyramid was constructed by Pharaoh Khufu translated to Cheops in Greek.

    According to Herodotus, a total of 100,000 men for a period of three (3) months every year engaged in the construction of this pyramid.

    The Great Pyramid is 2.3 million cubic meters excluding the interior chambers and rock foundation. It has a vertical height of 137.2m and a base measurement of 227.5m.

    Solar Boat Museum

    The excavations that were carried out in 1954 on the east and south of Pyramid of Cheops unleashed five (5) long boat cavities with a solar Barque that was broken into over 1000 pieces.

    These pieces were put back together and a cedar wood boat of about 4,500 year old now thrives at a small museum besides the Great Pyramid where travelers on tours in Egypt explore it from.

    Eastern Cemetery

    Standing on the Eastern side of the Great Pyramid of Cheops are three (3) smaller pyramids that were built as tombs for Queens and daughter of Pharaoh along with large cemetery for the rest of the relatives.

     Western Cemetery

    The Cemetery on the western side of the Pyramid of Cheops was built for members of high state officials and the Royal House.

    It was established during the fourth (4th) dynasty and was used until the Sixth (6th) dynasty. The interesting wall carvings exist on a small columned entry of Senegemib-Inti Tomb and can be viewed by travelers on Africa tours in Egypt.

     Pyramid of Chephren (Pyramid of Khafre)

    The Pyramid of Chephren also known as the Pyramid of Khafre is 160m in the southwest of the Great Pyramid. Khafre was a son of Khufu and is the one who built it.

    It appears to be larger than the Great Pyramid because it stands on a raised piece of land. This Pyramid rises to 135.5m in height and features 210.5m base.

    Pyramid of Mycerinus (Pyramid of Menkaure)

    The Pyramid of Mycerinus also known as Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the three (3) main Pyramids of Giza and is composed of limestone blocks. The vertical height rises to 62m while the base measurement extends to 108m.

    The rocky escarpment at 4km south of the Pyramid of Mycerinus present the best panoramic views of the entire Pyramid site.

     Sphinx

    This is another fascinating Monument to explore while on Egypt tours. The Sphinx is a simple granite structure with a shape of a Lion located to the north west of Pyramid of Cheops.

    Molded from the natural rock, the Sphinx feature the head of Pharaoh believed to be Chephren wearing a royal head cloth and cobra.

    It features a total length of 73.5m and rises to 20m in height.
