11 Days Madagascar East to West Tour with Tsingy de Bemaraha – Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Antananarivo & Transfer to Andasibe

Arrival in Antananarivo. You will be met at the airport by our representative and transfer eastwards to Andasibe. In the evening, a short night-walk is scheduled in order to spot nocturnal active animals.

Accommodation: Vakona Forest Lodge

Day 2: Tour Andasibe National Park

After some ride on a bumpy road, you will reach Mantadia Reserve, home for other species of lemurs, birds and chameleons.

This 4-hour hike is rather challenging but worth-it to explore the primary rainforest of Mantadia National Park.

You will seek Diademed sifaka, Black-and-white ruffed lemurs, the insectivorous tenrecs and the rainforest-dependent ground rollers.  In the afternoon, you will spot lemurs closely at the Lemurs’ Island.

Day 3:  Andasibe- Manambato – Pangalanes Channel       

Earlier in the morning, hike inside Analamazaotra Nature Reserve (another part of Périnet) to spot the largest of all lemurs, called “Indri indri” with other animals and medicinal plants.

Then, you will continue eastwards throughout the mountains and luxuriant vegetation.  From the Lake Rasoabe, you will have a short boat transfer to Palmarium. The rest of the day will be at leisure.

Day 4: Tour Pangalane Channel                                                                                                        

Today, visit of the private reserve of Palmarium to observe other species of lemurs and other endemic animals as well as typical plants.

Night walk to spot the Aye-Aye Lemurs in the neighbourhood of the Lodge. It is your unique chance to spot these rare Lemurs during this trip

Day 5:   Pangalanes Channel – Manambato – Antananarivo     

You will have a boat transfer back to Manambato, throughout the green channel of the Pangalanes. Then, continue by road to Antananarivo.

On the way, visit of local villages and fields in order to get closer to the local people, and get to know their way of life.

Day 6:  Antananarivo – Morondava – Kirindy

Transfer to the airport and fly to Morondava, in the Midwest coast of Madagascar, the Land of Baobabs. You will head northwards directly on a red road to the Reserve of Kirindy throughout the Baobab forests and the Savannah.

This reserve is located in a dry deciduous area, and home for the famous Fossa predator and several species of lemurs, reptiles and birds. You will have a diurnal and nocturnal walks inside the Reserve.

Day 7:   Kirindy – Bekopaka

Today, you will continue to Bekopaka, where you reach the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park, one of the World’s most unusual rock formations called the Tsingy.

You will pass through Belo Sur Tsiribihina, a quiet fishers’ village in a delta by the Mozambique Channel.

Day 8:  Tsingy of Bemaraha NP – a World Heritage Site                                                           

The Tsingy is like a gigantic limestone cathedral, and constitutes a dense network sharp limestone blocks. This rock formation is found in only two places in Madagascar. Several species of succulent plants grows on the Tsingy.

This National Park also shelters 13 species of Lemurs, among them the Decken’s  Sifaka, Red Fronted Brown lemur, the Grey Mouse Lemur, the Wooly Lemur, the Verrauxi Sifaka – mammals like the Narrow striped Mongoose, Fossa.

94 species of birds are also found here, like the endemic Madagascar Fish Eagle, Giant Couas and Vangas. 22 species of amphibians and 66 of reptiles are also registered here. The Big Tsingy is scheduled in the morning and the Petits Tsingy in the afternoon.

Day 9:   Bekopaka – Morondava          

You will then head backwards to Belo sur Tsiribihina and visit the market place of the village. After crossing the Tsiribihina River again on motorboat, you will continue to the Baobab Avenue, to enjoy the sunset, before reaching the coastal town of Morondava

Day 10: Morondava – Antananarivo

At dawn, drive back to the Baobab Avenue to enjoy the magical lights and views of the area. Then, transfer to the airport and fly back to the capital city of Antananarivo. Relax at Hotel upon arrival.

Day 11:  Explore Antananarivo City & Fly out

If time permits, you will have a city tour with our tour guide, including the visit of the Queen’s palace (under reconstruction), and the old palace of the Prime Minister Rainilaiarivony who married the three Queens.

You will be able to visit the handicraft market at Digue before reaching the airport for check-in and flight back home.
