Butare-National-Museum

Following an early breakfast at your place of stay (own arrangement), you embark on the drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park 268km about 6 hours’ drive enjoying the scenic Rwanda countryside marked by rolling hills before approaching Nyanza where a stop will be made to tour the Rukaari – the traditional palace of the Rwandan Monarch. The site features remarkable traditional hut which is an exact replica of the royal hut of King Musinga and his successor King Rudahigwa. There are beautiful traditional Inyambo cows at Nyanza Palace and can be viewed as well while a Rwanda dance group can as well entertain you with their remarkable Intore dance. You retreat from the activity, proceed to Butare for lunch after which you will tour the ethnographic museum – the largest in Rwanda with 100,000 artifacts detailing the history and the culture of Rwanda. From the museum tour, you proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park for relaxation, dinner and overnight

After a very breakfast or you may opt to pack it, you can set off at 5:30am for the drive to Kyamudongo forest maximum 2 hours drive to catch up with Chimpanzee trekking commencing at 8am Rwandan time. Nyungwe Forest standing as the most expanse montane forest in East and Central Africa is a rich habitat with only counts of habituated common chimpanzees in Rwanda, over 400 member grouping of Black and White colobus, numerous birds, lush flora and fauna. The 2 – 5 hour chimpanzee trekking encounter involves one (1) full hour with chimpanzees as they feed, patrol, play and mate. The trek through the forest also offers impressive sightseeing possibilities that combine with the chimp viewing activity to generate lasting memories.
