In 1980s the park fell into neglect for more than a decade and into the late 1990s this entrancing wilderness was virtually off limits due to out of control poaching. It was later in the years 2000 and 2005 championed by the international Fund for Animal welfare with the support of the EU and the park became a KWS cause celebre and was comprehensively restored with the newly cut earth roads together with a dedicated force of rangers which are led by a new warden called Peter Jenkins’ together with the son called Mark Jenkins and proof rhino sanctuary which is near the main gate and a home to both black and white rhinos and the protected area since 2005 is considered part of a Lion Conservation unit.
