Mount Kenya National park is a Kenyan National park which is found on the eastern side of the Great Rift Valley. Mount Kenya National Park is about 175kilometers northeast of Nairobi the Kenya’s capital city and it occupies an area of 2,800 square kilometers and most of which is above the 3000 meters contour line. The park has volcanic sediment in the surrounding soil in the region and the huge volume of fresh water coming down the slopes which makes the area particularly favorable for agriculture. Mount Kenya National park has six gates which include Sirimon Gate, Naro Moru Gate, Mawingu Gate, Chogoria Gate, Kihari Gate and the Kamweti Gate.
Mount Kenya initially was a forest reserve and later on was established as a National Park in 1949 to protect the region surrounding Mount Kenya National Park and its wildlife too. In the year of 1978 in the month of April, the area was designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and the park and the Reserve later on combined and became a UNESCO world Heritage site in the year of 1997 and currently the National park is within the forest reserve hence encircling it.

Accessibility – How to reach to Mount Kenya National Park
The park can be accessed by road from Nairobi through Nanyuki-Isiolo road via Sirimon Track which is 175km or Nyeri – Nanyuki road near Naro Moru. The park can also be reached from North of Nairobi 150km through Embu-Meru road.
It can also be accessed by air and the closest airstrip to the park is Nanyuki airport.
